This is most important holiday in Vietnam and is usually shortened to Tết. The Vietnamese New Year is based on the Chinese calendar. It is usually divided into three periods, Tất Niên (they preparation for the celebration often cooking special holiday food), Giao Thừa (this is the eve of Tết, the house is cleaning and decorated with flowers, and the family wait until the celebration begins in the morning) and Tân Niên (the days that follow the celebration). - 30th April the Liberation of Saigon
This day commemorates the day that Saigon came under the control of the North Vietnamese Army in 1975. - 1st May May Day
